On Thursday, February 5, 2025, NCBW100 Greater Cleveland hosted “Covid: What Do We Do Now”—a seminar on the impact of Covid on African American Women, featuring guest presenters: Dr. Nora Singer (Case Western Reserve University), Octavia Jones (Cleveland Department of Health), Amber Black (Village of Healing) and Long Covid Survivor, Eris Eady. Long COVID has disproportionately affected African American women, exacerbating existing health disparities. Many face persistent symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive issues, and chronic pain, which can last for months or even years. Access to care is a significant challenge, with African American patients often struggling to receive adequate treatment. The impact extends beyond physical health, affecting mental well-being and daily functioning. Studies show that African American women report higher rates of severe limitations in their ability to perform day-to-day activities compared to other racial groups. This highlights the urgent need for targeted healthcare interventions and support.
