The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Greater Cleveland Chapter (NCBW-GCC), in partnership with the ACLU of Ohio and the Jack & Jill of America, Inc. Erie Shores Chapter, hosted a virtual advocacy training on Monday, April 21, 2025, titled Sisters in Strategy: Legislative Tools for Real Change.

The session was part of the chapter’s ongoing WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) professional development series, designed to equip members with the skills and confidence to engage in effective legislative advocacy.

Led by Melekte Malaku, Senior Organizing Strategist at the ACLU of Ohio, the interactive training provided participants with a behind-the-scenes look at how state-level advocacy works — from understanding the Statehouse structure and lobbying rules to mastering the art of testifying and narrative storytelling.

Members explored how to craft an impactful “elevator pitch,” connect meaningfully with legislators, and build lasting relationships with elected officials to drive community change. The program emphasized that effective advocacy requires not just passion, but preparation — and that every voice, when informed and organized, can help shape policy outcomes.

Through this training, NCBW-GCC reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women with the tools and knowledge needed to influence policy and create systemic change across Greater Cleveland and beyond.
