On September 10, 2024, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Greater Cleveland Chapter (NCBW-GCC) joined community partners for The Great Debate — a powerful evening dedicated to dialogue, democracy, and voter empowerment.
Hosted by the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the Divine Nine of Greater Cleveland, the Cleveland NAACP, Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Black Environmental Leaders, and the Cleveland Chapter of the National Action Network, the event took place at Mt. Sinai Friendship United Church.
The evening began with a neighborhood canvass to encourage voter registration, followed by a dinner reception and pre-debate panel discussion. Participants engaged in timely conversations about issues shaping the 2024 election — including the Citizens Not Politicians initiative and the growing implications of Project 2025, a policy agenda gaining national attention for its potential impact on democracy, civil rights, and local communities.
Presented in part by NCBW-GCC’s Public Policy Committee, The Great Debate created a space where civic leaders, advocates, and residents could engage directly with one another before viewing the live Presidential Debate together. The discussion encouraged attendees to take an active role in understanding proposed policies and ballot measures, and to cast informed votes that reflect both awareness and accountability.
By collaborating with other mission-driven organizations, NCBW-GCC continues to champion civic literacy and voter education. Events like The Great Debate highlight how partnership and participation can drive real change — one conversation, one vote, and one community at a time.
