On April 8, 2025, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Greater Cleveland Chapter (NCBW-GCC) hosted Pay Equity: How Do We Move the Needle? at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in Cleveland.

Presented by the New Member Class as part of the Pay Equity and Economic Empowerment Initiative, the program tackled one of today’s most urgent issues — closing the wage gap for Black women.

Featured speakers Councilwoman Stephanie Howse-Jones and LaToya Smith, Vice President and Talent Acquisition Manager at Fifth Third Bank, led an engaging discussion on practical strategies for negotiating fair pay and understanding the policies that influence economic equity.

Councilwoman Howse-Jones emphasized the power of transparency and advocacy, encouraging attendees to normalize conversations about salary and financial empowerment within their personal and professional circles. Smith shared insights from the corporate sector, offering actionable steps on how to prepare for pay negotiations with confidence and data-driven awareness.

Participants left with a deeper understanding of how pay equity extends beyond wages — touching on dignity, opportunity, and generational wealth.

By fostering conversations that blend policy insight with personal empowerment, NCBW-GCC continues to advance its mission of supporting economic justice and equity for Black women across Greater Cleveland.
