Mindful Eating Meditation: A Juneteenth Celebration of Reflection and Renewal (June 19, 2024)

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Greater Cleveland Chapter (NCBW-GCC) hosted Mindful Eating Meditation, a special Juneteenth gathering presented by the Health Committee. The event, led by Guest Expert M. Frierson, LISW-S, took place at M Frierson Therapy in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and invited participants to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with their sense of self through the practice of mindful eating.

Held on Juneteenth, the program was both a celebration of freedom and an opportunity for personal reflection. Participants were encouraged to bring their own lunch and engage in a guided meditation that emphasized awareness, gratitude, and the nourishment of both body and soul. Frierson led attendees through techniques designed to foster intentional eating — focusing on how slowing down and being fully present during meals can strengthen mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall well-being.

The event exemplified NCBW-GCC’s commitment to holistic health and collective healing, bringing together members and community participants to celebrate through mindfulness and unity. As one attendee noted, the experience was “a moment to pause and remember that wellness is also a form of freedom.” The chapter’s Health Committee continues to create safe spaces for dialogue, education, and restorative practices that uplift Black women and their families.
