On October 24, 2024, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Greater Cleveland Chapter (NCBW-GCC) Health Committee joined forces with The Gathering Place, University Hospitals, and NEON Barth House to host How to Talk About Cancer: Pink Edition — an afternoon of education, empowerment, and community connection centered on breast cancer awareness and prevention.

Held at the NEON Barth House in Cleveland, the event focused on practical ways to talk about breast cancer — from understanding the importance of screenings and self-exams to managing the emotional and mental aspects of navigating life with or after diagnosis.

Facilitators Sydney Roberts, MA, LPC, NCC, CPPN, Dionne Jones, MSSA, LSW, CPT, and Stacy Mathews, MSN, CNP, led an engaging discussion on early detection, prevention strategies, and self-advocacy in healthcare. Attendees learned not only how to perform breast self-exams but also how to initiate open, informed conversations with healthcare providers and loved ones.

Resources and refreshments were provided, creating a welcoming environment where participants could learn, share experiences, and support one another.

Through partnerships like this, NCBW-GCC continues its mission to advance the health and wellness of Black women by increasing access to reliable information, encouraging preventive care, and breaking the silence around health challenges that disproportionately affect our community.
